Akrotheism: Behold the son of plagues Akrotheism: Behold the son of plagues

Lord K: Wow, some decent sounding black metal for once. And if I say so, you know it’s not shit at all. 6

Habakuk: Sorry, but these vocals suck. 6

sincan: The music has what we use to call “bra ös” or quite fine pace, my dear sir, as the tea sauna party people says. However the vocals are a bit Danni filthy and yes… 6

The Duff: What I should imagine 1349 sound like; atmosphere plus evil-speed and razor-leather. Solid black metal for those into a more ferocious kind of catchy plus the uncompromising standard as set by the classic 90s bands, just better produced but we are all familiar with the game by now. I know I would seriously dig this given more time; sometimes reminds me of Dark Funeral, other times Nightbringer. 7

Black Altar: Suicidal salvation Black Altar: Suicidal salvation

Lord K: More blackish metal, as can be expected with that moniker. Not bad at all this one. Me liking 2 BM bands in the same SCRAPS edition? That will never happen again, I’m sure. 6

Habakuk: Just not too great. Not bad, but just not too great. 6

sincan: I can namedrop a tons of good references in terms of bands. Therefore it is pretty decent but also doesn’t stand out that much. 6

The Duff: Tim Burton phoned. Said he likes your style of über-fast Immolation-black metal. Good stuff; reminds me of Lvcifyre, Borgia etc. 6,5

Druknroll: Boiling Point Druknroll: Boiling Point

Lord K: Tons of styles mixed, but those vocals (all of the styles used) need to get the fuck out now. 5

Habakuk: Ewww. 2

sincan: I’m surprised, with this moniker I thought I was about to hear something super awesome. 3

The Duff: Peter Jackson phoned. Said you guys are alright melo-thrash/chug-folk, Carnal Forge-lite with a pop-metal feel; like if Finntroll wanted to be successful. The vocals are the highlight, they cover a lot of ground. 5

Enthroned: Sovereigns Enthroned: Sovereigns

Lord K: For some reason I never gave Enthroned a chance. After listening to this I believe I did the right thing in neglecting them. Does absolutely nothing for me. 5

Habakuk: Too good for this section, I’d say. 7

sincan: I guess this one deserves a stand alone review. I guess my cock stands alone. 7

The Duff: Really glad these guys are still going strong because they are from Belgium – I am easy to please, black coffee first thing in the morning and the occasional blowjob. I bought one of Enthroned’s earlier records yeeeears ago and was not impressed, seemed standard fast BM to me, here we have very little that has changed. As much as I am enjoying this there is little helping it stand out, but I like it most when they slow down as much as their drummer beasts it up. 6,5

Funeral Sutra: Meditations Funeral Sutra: Meditations

Lord K: The production make my fucken ears ring and I can’t stand this for more than a few minutes. Sorry, pals. 2

Habakuk: It’s always the vocals. God damn it. 3

sincan: Black metal from Japan (!) with the now so typical post/hardcore vibe in it. If you like that modern style you will like Funeral Sutra. 7

The Duff: A lot of black metal this edition, terrible name; as if the Karma Sutra weren’t near fatal enough. These guys remind me a little of Altar of Plagues, but not by much; less finesse, more Burzum, but they have that soundscape, post-rock melody + drone thing where Burzum had a tape-deck and too many frustrations. This edition’s clear winner for me, unique enough, sorrowful, angry and an honest homage to the legends as well as accommodating to more current tastes like Negura Bungett, Agalloch. 7,5
